What Moves Us?
An old friend of mine, an anthropologist, posted a link to an article that explores the value of certain comments on YouTube videos. Reading about these reflections on music caused me to think about the source of our most powerful stories; it makes me think that some of the most emotionally moving moments in storytelling are not grand, epic, or loud. Rather, they are comprised of those intimate scenes where our soft-spoken humanity whispers just for a moment among a cacophony of civilization and history. It's the moment where the whisper is so powerful that even the loudest distractions in the room are suddenly stilled to silence.
